The Voice of An Old Friend...

Oh God The Eternal Father, help me to understand and see.
Teach me the way to go. Teach me how to learn of Thee.
I believe in Thee, Oh God, and I believe in Thy Son Jesus Christ.
But with all the different teachings, I get confused and need advice.
Some are teaching one belief while others are teaching another.
So how can I know the truth, one teaching from the other?
How can You be this kind of a God or how can You be that?
And why can’t anyone agree on who You are or where You’re at?
Some religions teach You are without body, parts or passion.
Others say You are Jesus Christ who suffered the crucifixion.
Others teach you are my Heavenly Father, and you have a body of flesh and bone.
The Bible says Jesus is Your Son, and to Stephen, You and He were shown.
Teach me, Oh God The Eternal Father, help me to understand and see,
that I may know the way to go, that I may know Thy Son and Thee.

In the Bible it says that Christ would send another.
The one He called the Comforter.
Because when Christ spoke to the apostle John,
He said that soon He would be gone.
He told the apostles that to His Father in Heaven He had to go,
and they were to baptize in the name of The Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
So who is the Holy Ghost, Oh God The Eternal Father?
Is He who Christ said He was? The Spirit, Revelator and Comforter?
Is He the one who testifies of Thee?
Could He be the one Christ sent to help me?
Is He the one who helps me see the way, and gives my soul relief,
from all the confusion in the world, among all the different beliefs?
Teach me to know of Him. Teach me to listen when He speaks.
Teach me to follow His promptings, for it is truth that I seek!

I want to know of Thee Oh God, I want to know the way.
I want to know what I must do, to live with Thee someday.
So does He speak in loud tones so I will surely know?
Or is His voice soft and does He speak unto my soul?
Is it like the sound of a marching band?
Or is it like holding a compass in my hand?
Is it like a raging bull, running and crashing into things?
Or is it merely the gentle tugging I feel upon my heart strings?
Is it like the words of thunder that bring upon me fear?
Or is it like the voice of an old friend who whispers in my ear?
For if He were loud and clear, Oh God, the path would be easier to see.
But then we would not need faith, and there would be no free agency.
So I’ll do my best to learn to follow Him, ...I promise, ...You’ll see!
So I can return, Oh God The Father, and once again live with Thee.

"But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send
in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you." St. John 14:26
