           That Barrel of Wheat...

There is a law, I’ve long heard about,
one found in the Bible and it carries much clout.
It’s about returning one-tenth of all your increase
to Him who grants you life, prosperity and peace.
Most people feel that what they have is theirs to keep.
And giving one-tenth to God is just way too steep.
But whether one agrees or disagrees with that law, the law still stands.
It’s just that God always gives free agency along with His commands.

In other words, even though the law of tithing is there,
it’s up to the individual if he wants to keep the law and share.
You see, it isn’t that God wants your money, He wants you to share and believe.
Tithing is a test of your faith and promise of blessings you’ll later receive.
It’s an opportunity to help others by giving some of what is yours,
and in return, the Lord will help you by opening new doors.
I’ve learned that tithing is a double blessing–now so simple for me to see,
because it helps me to help others and by doing so, the Lord helps me.
Don’t think hard times mean you’ve been forgotten or done something wrong,
because the Lord allows the rain to fall on all, to help make us strong.

Now, I’d like to say that I’ve always been that faithful, trusting sort,
but when I was younger there were many times when I fell short.
And then one day my eyes were opened to how much I actually live
by the grace of God above and how much He’s willing to give.
In fact, I remember a story in the Bible, a story that for me is so very real,
about a widow who opened her wheat barrel and shared her last meal.
Because of this, she was given a promise that her barrel would never be empty.
That no matter what, for her and her son, there would always be plenty.
And though her barrel of wheat never once overflowed,
there was never a time when they went hungry in her little abode.

And so it has also been with me, my brother, my sister, my unseen friend,
that if I pay my tithing, there’s always enough money at month’s end,
to feed our family and to take care of each earthly need,
which shows the miracle of having the faith of a mustard seed.
I’d be an absolute liar if I said these things were not true,
and I know that God does not love me more than He loves you.
So don’t be afraid to take Him at His word because you too will see,
that He will open a window and pour out a blessing to grand to receive.

"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say,
Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
   Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house;
and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you
the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing
that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:8 & 3 Nephi 24:8
