             As Those Ancients Stood...

There is a story about Isaac, the son of Abraham and a young man
who was willing to be sacrificed when his father had no lamb.
There is a story about Daniel, who when thrown in the lions den
went quiet and faithfully instead of screaming like other men.
There is a story about Nephi, who returned for the Golden Plates,
going against all odds and risking his and his brothers fate.

Now, what made them different? Where did they get that kind of trust?
Where did they get that faith in the Lord, the Scriptures say is a must?
They couldn’t have just received it in the very moment of their need,
it had to have grown from within them, beginning as just a seed.
To believe so strongly in the Lord, even in the face of death,
had to have come from experiences, bringing knowledge and depth.

It had to have happened over time. Over a series of faith building events.
To see if their faith would increase or just give-way and relent.
It also had to have come through training from parents to their young.
There’s no other way to explain this faith of which the Scriptures have sung.
Somehow, their trials of faith gave them an unusual trust in the Lord
where they no longer feared man or beast, sickness, fire or sword.

Now comes the test for you and me, to see if we will do the same:
trust in the Lord implicitly, to stand before Him without shame.
For He gives all of us those tests of faith, to see if our faith will grow
to see if our faith will become solid until of Him we actually know.
Then too we’ll stand as those ancients stood, afraid of nothing or no one.
Knowing our Lord our God stands with us, our Creator, our Savior, the Son.

"The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed...When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel...And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee..." Matthew 8:8-13
